Behold, Starbucks' latest offering, Nitro Cold Brew. It's espresso coffee infused with Nitrogen gas. Intrigued? So were we. The inclusion of the Nitrogen gas promises to give your beverage a 'naturally sweet taste' and a 'velvety texture'. It's served unsweetened without coffee, cream or syrups.
I felt compelled to ask the barista what she thought of Nitro Cold Brew, who told me that it was her favourite drink on the menu and that EVERYONE who orders it loves it. 'CREAMY COFFEE WITHOUT THE CALORIES???! COUNT ME IN' I thought.... £3.15 later (for the smallest size ofc) and I was handed a swirling black coffee (see image below).
Once the Nitrogen in the coffee had settled, it looked like a standard black coffee with a foamy top, it tasted SH*T.
What is the deal?! No it's not velvety, no it's not creamy, it literally tastes like black coffee with some gas in it, giving you a strange bubbly texture in your mouth, not what you're after first thing in the morning.
All in all, a pretentious coffee gone wrong. A daylight robbery. Starbucks should never feel tempted to combine science and coffee again.
